PROJECT SUMMARY

The Western Heritage Historic Byway (WHHB) spans over 30 miles, beginning on Idaho 69 (SH-69) at the I-84 Meridian Road interchange, proceeding south through Kuna, then turning south on Swan Falls Road to Swan Falls Dam. In September 2005, the U.S. Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration designated it a National Scenic Byway. WHHB is one of six byways in Idaho to receive this recognition.

The Western Heritage Historic Byway Corridor Management Plan indicated that the lack of shoulders along the Swan Falls Road portion of the byway is a major deterrent to bicycle and pedestrian use.

This project, provided by the Ada County Highway District (ACHD), will enhance the multi-modal safety and operation of Swan Falls Road for pedestrian, bicycle and automobile traffic by providing approximately five miles of five-foot wide paved shoulder within existing right-of-way, where little or no shoulder exists.

Construction is estimated to begin in Fall 2007.
